Nationale Jeugdraad is an umbrella organisation for 37 Dutch youth organisations. To gain a thorough understanding of youth behavior and opinions, they conducted a survey among a large group of young people. As they did not have the appropriate personnel available themselves, they enlisted our assistance.
Approach
The data from approximately 600 respondents was provided to us in Excel. This file contained both the responses to open-ended and closed-ended questions. We analysed the responses to the closed-ended questions and delivered an overview of the given answers within a few days. We visualised the data in understandable graphs segmented by various demographic characteristics.
While the analysis of the closed-ended questions was completed fairly quickly, analysing the open-ended questions took more time. Three of our researchers collaborated in the AtlasTI tool to manually add one or more labels to the answers, thus categorising them. They also exported these categorised responses into an Excel file with graphs. These were shared with NJR within a week so that they could analyse all the results together.
Result
NJR quickly obtained clear insights that they could incorporate into their report. Because there was a tight deadline, we initially shared the results of the closed-ended questions. This allowed NJR to start working on the report while we analysed the open-ended questions.
