Not only working for an organization but also helping to build that organisation: at Digital Power, it is possible. Over the past five years, our organisation has grown from about 20 employees to more than 100 colleagues. Together we ensure that we become more and more professional. And do you, as an employee, think that something could be done better? Then you can address and/or tackle it yourself. Find out how.

Building Digital Power together

Our team is very involved in the further development of Digital Power. We have a feedback culture where we are constantly moving not only each other, but also the organisation forward. After all, there is always room for improvement.

In recent years, many projects have been started by colleagues. This brought the necessary challenges. Consultants with good ideas who were on an assignment full-time, for instance, had no time to contribute internally. Also, out of enthusiasm, many projects were started without a clear goal, preliminary research or a baseline measurement. There were people with good ideas who kept walking around with them because they had no time to implement them themselves. Or a new project was never completed. Such a shame!

The organisational backlog

To maximise the power of involved colleagues, we came up with a solution: the organisational backlog. This is a platform where you, as a Digital Power employee, can share your ideas. If your idea is in line with our strategy, we will turn it into a concrete project.

The best thing would be if you, as the creator, take responsibility for this, but this is not necessary We record all ideas from the team in a central place. This way everyone can see which ideas there are, which projects are ongoing and who is working on them. Everyone can view the documentation: nice and transparent.

If you want to participate in a project, you can always join. Whether it is mainly to learn, or because your knowledge and skills are a perfect match for the project.

What's so special about it

So as a consultant/employee, you can really help build the organisation with us. Whether you are a 'DiP dino', or our newest team member. You don't necessarily have to come up with a brilliant idea; you can also help a colleague implement her/his idea. Colleagues who have been with us for just a year can already bring about organisational change in this way.

Our revenue model is in declarability, which means that we like to work many hours for our customers. Because it makes us better as an organisation, we also free up hours for backlog projects.

It is important here that the result must be greater than the time invested. We don't necessarily look at euros: the value of a project can also be in terms of something else. By determining together what the purpose of a project is and what value we can get out of it, we have very interesting conversations with each other.

Sample projects

The organisational backlog was presented internally some time ago. A number of projects that have been completed since then:

  • When you join us, you will be assigned a buddy. What exactly this buddy role entailed was not really clear internally. This is what we addressed! There is now a clear checklist that helps you as a buddy to familiarise a new colleague within the organisation.
  • We made a Power BI dashboard to support our sales presentation. This contains fun facts about our team.
  • We work a lot with data, but can you extract insights from all that data? And should you always want to? We developed an approach that helps us deal with data and ethics.
  • There was a need for in-depth training for our Technical Web Analysts. For this, we developed an internal training programme
  • We have already worked a lot for NGOs that have a lot of restrictions in terms of budgets. In 2021, we set up our own foundation, which enables us to help these kinds of organisations for free. Our way of donating to charities!
