Strengthening a data-driven mindset through tailored analytics training

Within Eneco’s Data Driven Marketing Chapter (around 60 colleagues), there was a growing need to better embed data-driven ways of working. The ambition was clear: not only data specialists, but also marketers and other teams should be able to perform analyses independently and make well-founded decisions.

Eneco aimed to:

  • Reduce analysis lead times
  • Decrease dependency on specialists
  • Improve decision quality
  • Build sustainable internal data knowledge

To achieve this, Eneco asked us in 2022 to develop a tailored analytics training programme that goes beyond one-off sessions and truly contributes to long-term capability building.

Approach

Instead of standalone sessions, we developed an integrated, tailored training programme aligned with Eneco’s knowledge level, daily practice, and ambitions.

1. Building the foundation

We started with the basics: what does data-driven working mean? What are KPIs? How do you collect data and what should you consider? This ensured a shared language across teams.

2. Deep dives per specialism

We then delivered advanced sessions, including:

  • GA4 Basics
  • GA4 Advanced
  • Google Tag Manager Basics
  • A/B Testing
  • Hotjar & Usabilla
  • BigQuery

Each session lasted 3–4 hours and was highly interactive, delivered in small groups and tailored to Eneco’s real-life use cases.

3. Learning by doing

Theory was directly applied in practice, including:

  • Working with Eneco’s measurement plan
  • Performing analyses in GA4
  • Setting up A/B tests
  • Connecting data in BigQuery
  • Translating insights into optimisations

This approach not only builds knowledge, but also confidence and ownership within teams.

4. Keeping knowledge up to date

The original programme has evolved over time. We now deliver refresher trainings two to three times per year to cover new developments and sharpen existing knowledge.

The training is now also co-delivered by an internal Eneco data specialist, ensuring knowledge is structurally embedded within the organisation.

Result

The tailored analytics training strengthened both knowledge and operational effectiveness.
