Data pressure cooker: the added value for Fietsvoordeelshop proven

Fietsvoordeelshop has seven physical shops and a webshop. It is one of the most successful bicycle shops at the moment. The bicycle shop worked mainly with Excel when it came to data. This means that a lot was done manually, every week.

Due to the growth of the organisation and the increasing number of processes, the Excel file became larger and cluttered. Fietsvoordeelshop asked us to demonstrate with a five-day data pressure cooker that data-driven work could be of added value.

Our approach

We started with the transfer of knowledge from Fietsvoordeelshop. They showed us how they worked with Excel. We also discussed the important themes for optimisation. For example, the retailer wants to be able to compare the performance of the branches and the webshop. In addition, they use data to be able to buy better and recommend the right bicycles to customers.

Via an API, we retrieved the data typed by Fietsvoordeelshop in Excel, directly from the source systems. Using a Python script, we transferred the data to Power BI. We then visualised the relevant data in a dashboard.

The customer was closely involved in every step: this was essential in order to create a good dashboard in such a short period of time. In doing so, it helped to gain a better understanding of data-driven working and to create support.

The result

Fietsvoordeelshop uses the dashboard to create a weekly report of sales data, margins and performance per shop. Processes that previously took place manually using Excel have now been automated. As a result, they no longer spend a whole day manually collecting and editing data. They now have clear insight into their data at the push of a button.

The dashboard we delivered in 5 days is not yet the end product. It shows the first important insights and opportunities for Fietsvoordeelshop in the field of data. They were very enthusiastic about the first results!

With the data pressure cooker, we showed that data-driven work can offer real added value for Fietsvoordeelshop. We convinced them of the opportunities that data-driven work can offer. They decided it was time to take further steps in this area.

Follow-up

After the pressure cooker, we set up a basic data infrastructure in Azure. Now we are working on expanding the dashboard and connecting new data sources. One of these sources, for example, contains the stock data. There is now insight into warehouse stock and the stock per shop. By combining this data with the sales data, we can even partly predict what will be sold where.

In addition, we now also look at product specifications. Fietsvoordeelshop can see which colour, frame size and batteries are sold a lot. We also help them with data analysis and translation into practice. With the new insights, Fietsvoordeelshop can further optimise their margins.
